Today marks my first full week of “Quarantine”. Long story short, because I am moving between jobs right now, I have two weeks off from work. I am calling it a “stay-cation”, even if it is a mandatory “stay-cation”.
During this time I have challenged myself to either do one creative thing every day or one thing I have been putting off for a couple of weeks. The things I have been putting off include: cleaning out my car (I had over 20 gas receipts just pilling up in there), organizing and “Marie Kondoing” my clothes, and replanting a few of my plants that needed a little extra love. Though these are not the most exciting tasks, I don’t mind doing them in my free time because they really help relieve my general anxiety of life.

Creativity has always been a little difficult for me because I can be, like most Dietitians, a bit Type A. 😉 I have been tried to be lenient on the way I define creativity. It mostly includes my painting, macrame-ing, cooking, baking, and of course, trying to start this blog. If there is one thing I have learned through this, it is that I love to share what I create with those around me. When I try new recipes, I really like sharing them with my roommates and getting feedback on what was good, what wasn’t good, etc. For example, yesterday we tried to make pork tenderloins with peach compote. The general consensus was: it was okay, but we never have to make it again. However, I am glad we tried! I learned that my pork cooking skills need improvement and I do not in fact like peach compote (or I just don’t know how to make it correctly) haha.
Here are a few “creative” things that I think worked out:
My macrame mini plant holders:

Dark Chocolate Cookies with Peanut Butter Filling:

Paining Recipe Cards:

And last, but not least, the BEST Chocolate Chip Cookies I have ever made:

I have really enjoyed having the time to leisurely do some activities that I wouldn’t regularly devote time to. I have also found that when I am making these things, the part of the process that excites me the most is when I get to share what I made with my roommates. When life goes back to normal (or as normal as it can), I will be sure to take an hour or two per week to be creative and share that creativity with the people I love.
Good luck to anyone else in mandatory “stay-cation” and thank you to everyone who still has to work during this time!
Thanks for reading! And do something kind today 🙂
